Tin Plate(ETP) consists of cold-rolled sheet steel (black plate steel) with a thickness 0.14~0.60 mm. It owes its name to an ultra-thin coating of tin which imparts a whitish gloss to the material.

This coating is electrolytically applied and protects the material from corrosion. For Tinplate, electroplating of tin produce a matte, non-reflective appearance, which is required for certain applications. To improve the brightness and reflectivity of the surface, the plated tin coating is re-melted. The finish so produced is known as "reflowed" or "flow-brightened".The finished appearance of Tinplate is dependent on the surface roughness of the steel base and for Tinplate, on whether the tin coating is left as-plate ("matte") or flow-brightened. Tinplate is used worldwide in the manufacture of cans for food, beverage and general line (chemical or technical) products.
